Jesus manifests his love through humility and service.

Jesus manifests his love through humility and service.
His logic is completely different from that of the world. By washing the feet of His own, He teaches that the struggle of pride, division, and the destruction of man will come when each is able to look upon another and treat him as more important. By doing this reciprocally, all humanity will be transformed by the logic of love, truth and life. Non-Jewish slaves or wives were the ones who washed their master's feet; however, here, it is Jesus, the Lord and Master, who washes the feet of His own. Jesus is absolutely contrary to the logic that justifies domination, pride, the existence of masters and slaves, and the exploitation of one for the other. He takes the mantle (the dignity of the lord), not in a sense of contempt, but of sharing with His, and puts the towel (the servant's own apron), revealing a disconcerting gesture of total detachment and self-giving. Peter is shocked, not understanding such an action of Jesus. This gesture calls a question and prompts a teaching. That was the way the rabbis used to teach.
4. Jesus does not take off the towel, but puts the mantle on top of it, implying that his life of service will continue to the cross, but not only because, according to the text, there is a commandment given to the Church to make same thing in the world. The Church will continue in history the serviceable exercise of love as a gift for all mankind. Necessary is the conversion of all to the logic of Christ, who does not perform the ritual of washing hands simply, but goes further, washing the feet of the present, even the feet of Judas. This means that it was not physical purification, but a demand for a total change of mentality, which did not happen in Judas Iscariot, who remained in the devil's logic. In this context, the Eucharist is born as a shared and shared life, and the Priesthood as a life offered in sacrifice and communion.
5. St. Paul says this is what he received and now conveys (1Cor 11: 23-26). That is, he changed his mentality, truly knew Jesus Christ, became, therefore, brother of the other disciples of the Messiah, receiving from them what was taught, lived and instituted by Jesus. Paul teaches only what he has received and transmits it with love and dedication. In the eucharistic memory one finds the connection with the Messiah Priest and Servant. Memory is not a memory, but an actualization of the mystery through the action of the Holy Spirit. There is a demand of Jesus for the realization of the Supper in history demonstrated in the imperative "Do this in my memory". Then, analyzing the text, we highlight three important things: first, the institution of the Eucharist as the sacramental reality of the New and Eternal Covenant; then the institution of the ministry capable of making this mystery present in history: the priesthood; and lastly, the condition of the minister and the new people of God that the Eucharist as food and the priesthood as head: to live in the likeness of the Servant Messiah, serving one another, that is, as a Eucharist for the life of the Church.
A strong and affectionate hug.
